Empire Shelf Clock

East Bloomfield, NY ca 1830

Abner Jones was trained as a clockmaker by his father, Jacob Jones, in Pittsfield, NH. He came to East Bloomfield prior to the completion of the Erie Canal in 1818. Between 1825 and 1835 he made about 100 large shelf clocks of top quality, many with drawers. The outer dial fastened to the door and is a distinguishing characteristic of his clocks.
